Dandelion: Make a Wish

Dandelions have long been associated with wishes, hope, and messages carried by the wind. In Victorian floriography, they symbolized wishes, divination, and faithfulness through difficult times. They were often connected with quiet hopes and love from a distance, expressing feelings that could not always be put into words. A dandelion could carry a simple message of affection, letting someone know they were remembered and missed, no matter how far away they were.

In the British Isles, an old belief held that whispering a message into a dandelion puff and blowing its seeds toward someone you loved would carry those words straight to their heart. Folklore also described the floating seeds as fairies in disguise, released into the wind to carry wishes and feelings of longing. Some traditions believed that the direction in which the seeds travelled could reveal where future love might come from. Blowing dandelion seeds toward someone was also considered a small act of devotion, with each seed representing a wish or a message of affection sent into the air.
